MAGGOTCHEER “No one calls you honey, when you’re sitting on a throne…”— Several moons into servitude, Maggotcheer still felt strange referring to herself as a mother. But here she was, the adoptive parent to an orphaned apprentice, in a clan she’d only recently joined herself. It was an odd feeling, indeed, to have gained so much undeserved trust so quickly, both from ShoreClan and from the feline she now called "daughter." Who would have thought simple motherhood could make the former rogue feel even more powerful than when she stripped cats of their lives? Perhaps queens weren’t crazy after all to sacrifice their youthful bodies to childbirth. For, if they played the game well enough, they could influence entire generations and, little by little, the whole forest. ‘ Finally, now I understand why our species continues to reproduce,’ Maggotcheer mused. ‘ It has certainly baffled me long enough.’ The spindly, balding she-cat shot a glance at her adopted offspring, Luminouspaw, as the two strolled by the lakeshore during their weekly mother-daughter date. Maggotcheer studied the younger feline’s face, her own countenance devoid of expression. Could she handle more children down the line? Or should she pour everything she had into the grey-and-white apprentice to ensure Luminouspaw’s eternal devotion? If Maggotcheer had a partner – er, mate as the clan cats called it – she’d likely have more children, biological even. But, for better or for worse, her ugly mug drove everyone away, not just eligible toms. Not that she minded, though. She’d never desired a romantic relationship, nor adoration in that manner. It only disappointed Maggotcheer that she could not use feminine wiles as a means for getting ahead. It sure served many she-cats well. “Luuuuuuminouspaw, what would you like to do today?” Maggotcheer grinned her famous bucktoothed smile. Although she aimed to use Luminouspaw for her own ends, the oriental she-cat did enjoy spending time with the apprentice, whose wild, chaotic personality meshed well with her own. Was that love? Who knew, really. “We could go for a swim with the fishies? Or chase after some crabs?” — “Just like you said, I am a little wicked.” desolate

[attr="class","impress"] [attr="class","me"] [attr="class","bang"] haze[attr="class","bang"]403 words [attr="class","bang"]here comes trouble c: [attr="class","Revolution"][attr="class",rise"] ❝ Honestly, clan life was still a whole mystery to the young apprentice. She wasn’t exactly the biggest fan of being told what she can and cannot do, she had been left abandoned as a kit, and somehow managed to survive her first few moons as a wild little thing. Found by a patrol and basically forced to adopt a new way of life, she humoured it. It meant a safe place to sleep and food in her belly that she didn’t have to try and wrestle - seeing as it was almost all bigger than her. While she always went out of her way to find the ocean, many cats found her and dragged her back, scolding her about the dangers, but she was an adventurer, she needed to explore! Maggotcheer understood that. Luminouspaw liked that. Many cats didn’t seem to be overly fond of the older she-cat, and be it her interesting looks, or the way she spoke, or maybe just how she acted - it was a mystery to Luminouspaw. She saw nothing wrong with the other she-cat. She was the only one who didn’t roll her eyes whenever she started spewing her weird tales of the ocean, and talking about how she would protect the clan from sea monsters. Instead she supported it. It was no surprise when the unlikely pair basically became a found family. Today was one of those ‘Mother-daughter’ ’dates’ that they often did when she was younger. It had been harder since she became an apprentice. It was weird being allowed to leave the camp now, but it was even more weird being told how to do things. She was supposed to hunt and fight now? Maybe she would finally be able to prove she could handle the sea and the vast amount of monsters that lay below it’s surface. Ears pricking towards the hissing voice in question, she turned to look at Maggotcheer as she spoke. Her seafoam eyes seemed to light up at the very idea of doing some of her favourite things. “I feel those dastardly crabs have been left to their own devices for far too long! I say it’s time we remind them that it’s not their territory, and we fear none of those pinchers of theirs!” she declared, her little head held high. She was much more akin to crazy adventures then just relaxing and living a normal ‘clan life’. - SHORECLAN WARRIOR -
Maggotcheer flashed her adoptive daughter a toothy grin, the most genuine and wholesome smile she’d offered anyone for weeks. Contrary to popular belief, Maggotcheer wasn’t always smirking like a classic fairy tale villain. She, in fact, only emoted physically when she had an audience, and even then, those “emotions” were seldom authentic. But occasionally, a cat or two managed to wrangle a bonafide reaction from her. With her brothers off in OrchidClan and GaleClan, the only felines who consistently accomplished such a feat were her daughter and Fernwind, a tom with whom she shared a few hobbies and sometimes a nest.
“I could do with a nibble of crab,” Maggotcheer purred, motioning with her tail for the apprentice to take the lead. “I assume you remember where the ‘dastardly’ crabs dwell? You can have first dibs, of course.”
The white oriental she-cat padded after Luminouspaw, her blue eyes trained on the horizon. When she’d arrived in ShoreClan, Maggotcheer had never expected to put down roots – to start a small family and make friends. (Well, exactly one friend and one child.) The family business had always come first in the olden days, which left little time for social frivolities. But she’d quickly realized that to effectively blend into her new society, she needed to prioritize building relationships, and not just the kind cultivated through fear and intimidation, though those tactics still had their place.
So far, only one ShoreClanner outside of family could stand to be around her for more than a few minutes: Fernwind, the adrenaline junkie. For whatever reason, he seemed to enjoy her company, whether it was cliff-jumping, diving for fish, or snuggling at night – an activity he always initiated. Maggotcheer didn’t hate the feeling, and sometimes it even kept her warm, but even still, she found the behavior odd. Not odd enough to correct, but strange nonetheless. She used to cuddle with her brothers, but this felt… different, more personal. Was this ‘mate’ behavior, or whatever the clan cats called it? He did take interest in her offspring, treated Luminouspaw as though she were the most special apprentice in the entire forest – which she was, of course. Maybe he’d be interested in providing Maggotcheer more children one day.
“Oh, Lummy! What do you think of Fernwind?”

[attr="class","impress"] [attr="class","me"] [attr="class","bang"] haze [attr="class","bang"]456 words [attr="class","bang"]here comes trouble c: [attr="class","Revolution"][attr="class",rise"] ❝ The weird pair continued their way through the familiar territory, an oddity in the air from how normal and perfect these two oddballs seemed to blend together. Two stray cats from wildly different walks of life brought together by a clan that had been so kind as to open their dens to them and accept them both in all their strange quirks. As she aged she was starting to slowly see the differences between herself and her clanmates. Thankfully though the aloof nature of Luminouspaw kept her from feeling out of place and left out. Heck, it still managed to keep her blissfully aware of the way cats stared or spoke of Maggocheer. Her blissful arrogance was a blessing and a curse. While it made it hard for her to notice when cats were uncomfortable or uncertain about how to deal with them - it also kept the deeply unpleasant thoughts at bay. Able to live in her little bubble happily without a care, she beamed up at her mother. “Of course I know the way! Those crabs couldn’t find a hiding spot that I couldn’t sniff them out of!” She huffed out, puffing out her chest with her childlike pride. Wide steps gave her a sort of cartoonish look as she took the lead in their little walk. These were the moments she lived for. Training was fine and exploring freely was always a welcomed past time - but these moments were best. A moment of serene time to walk with Maggotcheer and just talk. A completely judgement free time to just be herself with one of the only cats she cared about. Not to say she didn’t like her clanmates, but none of them were willing to take the time to get to know Luminouspaw and her quirks. Well, Fernwind did make an effort she supposed. At this thought her ears twitched back at the sound of Maggotcheer’s question about Fernwind. The fact that her mother was asking her opinion of another cat struck her as odd, more so then the affectionate nickname. While it was very uncommon for clan cats to use nicknames, it was something she welcomed. But perhaps that too would change with time as she grew older and matured into her role in the clan. “I don’t dislike Fernwind.” She mewed back over her shoulder bluntly. Not being one to sit and dwell on other cats much she wa struggling to think of someone to say about the Shoreclan Tom. Still on her trek to take down the crabs she mulled over the idea maybe her mother had opinions on this cat. Maybe he wasn’t someone she wanted her to talk to, “what do you think of Fernwind?” She inquired.
