A muscular tom with sharp claws. He has a masked-and-caped pattern in his thin black-and-white fur. His eyes are a bright yellow. He is is an incredible acrobat and tree climber thanks to his build and claws. These traits are what tend to make others confuse him, or his slightly older brother, Ashwhisper, for each other. He usually smells of Oakwood.[break][break]

personality

Basilstar is a patient and seemingly passive Leader. He is soft spoken and few have heard him raise his voice in anger. He gives a gentle demeanor, even at Gatherings; and as a warrior he was compassionate and tried to be helpful, but these traits are what make cats unsure of his right to be a Leader. Basilstar doesn't seem to care, however, he does majority-wise as he pleases and strays from tradition often. He doesn't care to have enemies, not even with other Clans, as he finds it a waste of time, going against what Starclan intended for them. Although, he isn't new to rivalries, having so many siblings he understands the necessary growth one could have when comparing strengths and achievements. And despite all said about him being a pushover, he gives fair trials and endeavors to judge cats like StarClan would: if one is a killer or has committed great crimes send them away, but refugees looking to join are mostly welcome. Even if others are to judge, if his Clan were to judge him, Basilstar would always try his hardest for GaleClan. To be the Leader he never wanted to be.[break][break]

history

Basilstar, his warrior name being Basilclaw, was born to Petalthorn and Darkflight, his father now deceased, alongside Ashwhisper, Raindapple, Shadebreeze, and Flamerunner within GaleClan. He was adventurous and certainly stubborn as a young kit, going off with his brothers and sisters to practice fighting. However, after being apprenticed to Leopardeye, he learned that Clan life wasn’t about showing up other Clans or becoming the strongest, most loyal warrior. Rather, the Clan was like a family that you must nurture and take care of. That, sure, you could protect it by scaring other cats off, but you didn't have to. You could be empathetic to someone else’s family. After hearing more about StarClan, he wanted nothing more than to please them and be a good cat to bring blessings upon his Clan and others he met. Although he knew that he wished to help others, even outside his Clan, and that he wanted to please StarClan, he found himself without a specific dream or goal. [break]
When picked to be Deputy at the early age of 16 moons, barely having an apprentice for one, he panicked but accepted the role after Raccoonstar insisted. He decided even if he didn't have a dream, he was still going to try and be helpful, so he went around, doing odd jobs for anyone who asked alongside he Deputy duties. [break]

 After Raccoonstar died, Basilstar being 21 moons, he knew that he had to be more than a helpful cat. He had to strive to be something impossible, perfect, but he refused to accept what normally entailed in an ambitious, traditional GaleClan Leader’s definition of perfection. There was a reason for change, be it seasons, weather, or leadership. Sometimes the Clan would need tradition, sometimes not, but Basilstar was determined to figure out how to tell the signs of a need for change. This is why StarClan made Leaders last longer but never forever. Never to be immortal. [break][break]

Fun facts: Basilstar, as a kit and apprentice, kept trying to master tree climbing, which he was originally terrible at, and ended up breaking his leg or paw once or twice. Now, as an expert, he climbs trees of ten to scout, Hunt, or rest. Only strengthening his skill, but unfortunately, this can make him hard to find at times. Basilstar, starting as an older apprentice, has a habit of looking at ShoreClan without hiding his clear admiration. He does this because he likes the way they live in such harsh circumstances yet so happily. This is what led him to noticing Wapatofur.
