Minkstar.Minkstar and Mellowpaw, along with their accompanying warrior, had arrived back shortly before the sun breached the horizon, shortly before it painted the sky a myriad of colors. The day had passed with some ease, some self-imposed, fake-it-till-you-make-it vigor. She hadn’t felt like sleeping, despite how bone tired she was. But, things needed to be done, the life of the clan did not stop just because she was tired. Minkstar handled all the deputy’s duties for the time being, still organizing as she once had.
Patrols were organized, and sent out, and now with only the evening patrol still out, Minkstar prepared. She thought over what she would say, and how she would say it, composing her speech and solidifying her choice of deputy.
As the evening patrol entered back into camp, Minkstar called a meeting.
”Shoreclan! Gather here for a clan meeting!” She yowled, loud enough for all in the clan to hear. ”It’s time to announce the new deputy of Shoreclan!” She said, before settling upon her perch a little above the clan, so that she could be seen. She settled with her tail curled around her paws, waiting patiently for the Shoreclan cats to assemble beneath her. Her eyes sought out each clanmate as they gathered around, and settled in their comfortable spots beneath the meeting place, all looking up with curious, expectant gazes.
’Starclan, I hope I’m making the right choice,’ she thought to herself. She felt confident in her choice, and felt that the warrior would serve the clan well until she came to lose all of her lives.
Minkstar had still not fully adjusted to being leader, but it was customary to appoint a new deputy before Moonhigh the next day after the leadership ceremony took place. This was what their customs dictated, and had since before the clans had reformed beneath the three leaders of Shore, Gale, and Orchid, as tales had said. Minkstar twitched her ear slightly, looking out amongst her clanmates. Did any of them suspect who might be appointed? Was the choice obvious to them as it was to her?

Heronocean Black and grey fur shuffled through the cave, the departing sun shining a warm glow into their camp as their newly appointed leader made her way to address the clan. He could feel his whiskers tremble slightly, who knew what was to come. Hopefully it was good news for their clan - hopefully Starclan hadn't turned their backs on them because of the vanishing of Jellyfishstar. Honey coloured orbs glanced around as cats started to take head of the call and make their appearances. Somewhere near the middle of the cave he found a spot and sat down, curling his shaky grey tail over restless white paws.
Desertrose To say she was tired would be an understatement, the queen was heavy with kits that were due any day now. Her cream coloured body was slender until you reached the rather large swell in her belly. The queen pushed her way from the nursing area and made her way towards the edge of the meeting space. Her face was still solid and the most expressive it had been in moons. Now that her body was waring on her, she would soon have new life to the ranks of Shoreclan.

Heronheart waited for the rest of the evening patrol to filter into camp before following. Traditionally the patrol leader should have been, you know, leading. But he always preferred being in the back of patrols. Made it easier to guard the rear.
When he DID enter camp though, his tail had barely cleared the thorny barrier when he heard the newly named Minkstar called the Clan together. Didn't even give him time to wonder what it was about before declaring it for all to hear.
Heronheart sat at the back of the gathering crowd and tried to guess who Minkstar would choose based on where her eyes were looking. But she was looking everywhere, so that didn't help. He snorted to himself. Guess he'd just have to wait patiently with the rest of the Clan.
Blah. Patience.

Mellowpaw exited his den. He already knew who Minkstar was going to choose, but that didn’t make the ceremony any less nerve-wracking. Nevertheless, he stood determinedly watching Minkstar. He would not shy away from his family and the horrible future ahead. He tried to remain relaxed and at ease in the eyes of others. Wrapping his tail around his front paws, he waited for Minkstar to make her announcement. They would have to explain to the new Deputy as soon as possible what was happening- or what was going to happen. StarClan only provided him a few indications as to what their destiny would be, and in turn, Mellowpaw reasoned most of it out. Still, the white cat of ShoreClan played in the back of his mind. He couldn’t identify them, which was frustrating, but it still narrowed the suspects. However, StarClan never did specify when precisely this would take place. ‘May it not be soon. The Deputy will still need time, as I do.’
Myrtlewing went along with Desertrose out of the Nursery, noting that Ducknose was following on her tail. She settled near the green-eyed Queen. Her lighter blue eyes still on her Leader, she murmured, "Are you certain you're alright to be sitting? No one would blame you to lay down and rest." Myrtlewing was newly appointed as a Queen after discovering her pregnancy, but Desertrose was much more round and heavy. Ducknose looked a bit more comfortable, large, but alright enough to study their new Leader with that mischievous glint in her eyes. Myrtlewing had a suspicion Ducknose would walk off to gossip about the new Deputy as soon as the ceremony ended. The long-haired gray she-cat shrugged off the thought. 'She usually does that anyway.' She looked around to see Driftfall and Harefoot near the front, apparently bickering over something silently. She was going to split them up, as she usually did, but thought better of it. She wanted to give moral support to her fellow Queen, who would probably be alone after the end of the ceremony, and Tigerdusk, her mate, seemed to be settling them down. She would be sure to thank him when he stopped by.

Minkstar.Minkstar waited patiently for the cats to gather, and once it seemed to her that most of the faces were present, she stood, taking a breath and lifting her voice to be heard by all the cats present.
“I say these words before Starclan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of Shoreclan is Heronfrost.” She said, her voice rising to the stars so that all cats gathered — both visible and not visible — may hear the choice that she had made, and hopefully approve of the choice at hand. Her gaze swept over the gathered cats, and found Heronfrost in the midst of them all, curious to see the other’s reaction to the news.

Heronfrost was so busy looking at the other warriors, trying to guess who Minkstar would choose, that it bypassed him entirely that his name had been spoken.
Eventually though it DID click, and his head snapped up toward Minkstar with narrowed eyes. What was she up to? Because she HAD to be up to something. There was no other reason for her to choose him as her second.
He couldn't really say no though, not without at least throwing the Clan into a frenzy. A frenzied Clan was a loud Clan, and a loud Clan was an annoying one, and an annoyed Heronfrost was a mean one.
So giving Minkstar a narrow eyed look that pretty much said "We will be having WORDS later!", he approached the traditional spot of the deputy and turned to face his Clanmates. "Cats of ShoreClan... To be honest I'm not uncertain whether Minkstar has bees in her brain or not. But I swear to you and the spirits of StarClan that I will serve you as your deputy until I die or I am no longer needed."
He dipped his head to them respectfully, then turned to where Minkstar stood and bowed even deeper.
