Lavenderwhisker had her sights set on a squirrel; it was sitting at the base of a tree, flicking its tail periodically as it chewed its way through an accord that had fallen to the ground. Leaves above were beginning to turn various shades of red and orange, as the weather cooled down. Leaffall had begun to grip the forest, and that meant that all of Lavenderwhisker’s effort needed to go into hunting. The clan had to be well-fed in the moons to follow, so that when Leafbare came, their struggle would not be amplified by hunger.

Her paws tucked themselves beneath her body, her rump wriggling slowly as she prepared to spring forward toward the squirrel.

Lavenderwhisker launched herself forward.

Instead of darting straight up the tree like she had assumed the squirrel would, it ran in a zigzag pattern away from her. A little confused by its actions, Lavenderwhisker gave chase, gaining quickly. She sprung once more, attempting to capture the creature between her claws.

Her leap was miscalculated, however, and instead of capturing the squirrel, she instead went straight into a bramble bush. An annoyed hiss escaped her as she attempted to untangle herself from the briars and vines, to not real avail.

“Hello? Can someone help me?” Lavenderwhisker called out, growing still as she realized she wasn’t going to be able to get herself out of this mess she’d inadvertently put herself in. She heard the squirrel behind her, above her, on a branch, chittering away as is laughing at her. She gave a sigh, her ears flicking to the side. ‘Great. Just laugh away at me,’ she thought glumly to herself.
