Dawnkit woke to the uncomfortable feeling of her back bristling against a sudden chill. A former heat source was now gone. Raising her head, she squinted at the Newleaf morning. Palewillow was not nearby, which meant only one thing. If Dawnkit wanted to play properly, now would be the best opportunity to get away. She stood, not bothering to stretch or yawn. Dawnkit never took long to get out of the sleepy state most kits tended to get stuck in. She looked down at her sleeping littermates lovingly, her heart growing so warm she thought it might burst with affection. Green eyes growing sharp, she picked her first victim easily. Dawnkit crouched close to the ground before moving slightly near- going for Duskkit’s throat. Biting it roughly, she felt resistance. After a few short heartbeats, she decided to stop, for now, as her brother was most definitely awake. Dawnkit did not explain or apologize, as she had done this every morning since teething. Speaking was not her thing, but it would take longer for Duskkit to try and guess what she wanted. “Explore?…” she uttered. So quiet, she thought she might have to ask twice. She made an indication of their mother’s missing presence with her tail. Knowing Duskkit, the possibility of him refusing her was close to none.

Dawnkit whipped her head around, surprised and a little more than forlorn. She loved waking up first because it meant that she would get to wake everyone else. Dawnkit was still mulling over if she should just attack anyway- but swiftly realized that she had to have priorities. Dawnkit could bite Nightkit anytime, but adventures, with their sharp-eyed mother, were nearly impossible. Dawnkit gave a small huff before mewing quietly, “…little while..” She gave Nightkit a slight pout before cheering up again. Dawnkit realized she was still on top of poor Duskkit and quickly padded over to Daykit, now ignoring her newly awoken brother, biting her as she had Duskkit, although slightly softer. “Dawnkit, explore,” she mewled persistently to Daykit, nudging her with her nose.

In her hazy blue dreams, Daykit sat crouched before a flock of songbirds. Perched in tall oak trees, the birds -- cloaked in colors and shades of every kind -- chirped in synchrony, their melodious voices spilling out into the woods beyond. Daykit, eyes wide in awe, opened her mouth as though to join in but before she could, she felt a sharp pain in her throat.

Daykit snapped open her eyes, letting out a tiny repressed squeak. She met the deranged gaze of her sister, Dawnkit, and released another muffled squeal of protest. Back pedaling, the grey tabby she-kit buried her face in the moss and covered her ears, swatting Dawnkit's nose away with her tail.

"I'm sleeping," she whined. "Go explore with someone else."

Unlike his other siblings the large eared tabby did not get a chance to wake up peacefully or to a chill along his spine. No. He was lucky and woke up to his sisters teeth digging into his nek. A small yelp escaped the tom as he rolled over now kicking into the air where she had once been - before their siblings distracted her attention. Rolling over again he gave a huff and kicked out his little legs, unapologetically kicking Daykit in the process.

"Dawnkit! Why did you have to bite me?" he huffed, his sleep riddled brain not processing their picture perfect opportunity to sneak out and have a day full of adventures.

Dawnkit purred in delight as Duskkit hissed at her. Taking no offense. Nodding her head to Nightkit, having talked presumably as much as she would that day, she turned to pull Daykit with all her might. Digging her teeth in, she kept tugging. Her brown fur bristled with frustration.

Daykit shrieked as Duskkit's foot connected with her head. Although the pain was little, she never passed up an opportunity to elicit attention, especially from her family. She buried her head into the moss bedding, but lifted it just a smidge to see if anyone was watching her performance.

Her yelp a few moments later -- when Dawnkit sank her teeth into her leg -- was authentic, however.

"Okay, okay! I'll come with you." Daykit tugged her foot away and cuffed her sister's ear, harder than she had intended.

The sudden hissing of his sister and brother caused the sleep hazed kitten to start to slowly clue in on Dawnkit and Nightkit's idea. To this his ears finally perked up and he took his turn at Daykit nudging her side before he scrambled to his own paws, pushing towards the nursery entrance with Nightkit.

"Hey guys.. maybe we can sneak out the back.. so no one sees us.." he mused out loud.

Dawnkit, satisfied with another excellent success of waking Daykit, turned to Nightkit and Duskkit. Cleverly, they had been trying to break out of the nest rather than sneaking out through camp. They weren't making too much progress, however.

Dawnkit, stepping back to get a running start, charged forward. She crashed into the thicket of branches and vines where Nightkit had been digging; Dawnkit started to claw and maul like a savage. Forcing herself through unnecessary means was her favorite way. After a moment of chaos, she finally managed to make a hole big enough for one kit. Clearly, there had been an easier and more efficient way to get through the thicket, but Dawnkit chose violence- like usual.

Blinking pale green eyes all so sweetly, she made a pleased look to her siblings.

[ *spongebob narrator voice* one month later ]

Daykit watched Dawnkit with undisguised repulsion as her sister plowed through the thicket at the back of the nursery.

"Great, now a rat can get in!" Daykit curled up into a ball and rested her head on her paws, tutting at her sister. "All you ever do is destroy, mousebrain."

After she said the filthy word, she shot her siblings a desperate, warning look, as though pleading with them not to tell mom.

Duskkit was baffled for a moment as his sister just blew her way through the wall of the nursery. That wasn't exactly what he had in mind for their grand escape, but it was better then nothing he supposed. Glancing over at Daykit and he pounced, digging two of his paws into her side, "Get up lazy bones" he snorted before he looked to see if Nightkit would also protest,

"Now we have two choices. Take advantage of this mess, or we can be boring and just clean up after Dawnkit. And I know which one I'd rather do." he huffed before he shoved his way past and started to wiggle his way out through the now damaged corner of the nursery.
