beefur (he/him) | shoreclan
The sound of the she-cat's giggle was the greatest sound that Beefur had ever heard, as far as he was concerned. And to think that he helped produce it? It made his heart flutter at the same pace as her laugh.
"Don't apologize," he said rather quickly, the words tumbling out of his mouth before he even had a chance to think about it. But the more he did think about it, the more he felt strongly about it. The more he thought about the times that he apologized for making too much noise, for taking up too much space, for being embarrassing to those around him. He didn't want this she-cat to apologize for making a noise that filled him with such joy, for being herself. He wanted her to be unapologetically herself entirely.
For a singular moment, Beefur finally found himself lost for words when he listened to the she-cat giggle. A cat who was usually so full of things to say, a cat who was told to be quiet, and suddenly it seemed like his mind was empty because he just wanted to fill it with the sound of her giggle.
He started to think about all the stories he could tell her, and all the things that might make her laugh, but none of them could come out. His brain was beginning to buzz, but his stomach suddenly began to sink when he thought about what was going on. Beefur hated to admit to himself that this was a GaleClan cat, a cat who he probably shouldn't be sharing these things with. Her laugh was one that had crossed boundaries, joy was something that was supposed to exist in every single Clan. The feeling of friendship was something that shouldn't have been stopped by arbitrarily made borders, and he hated realizing when he looked up at the sky that the sun was beginning to dip, and their respective Clanmates would wonder where they were. Did anyone worry when Beefur didn't make it back before sundown? He figured the she-cat in front of him probably had tons of loved ones who would question why she smelled of fish, and he knew that if she ran into Wapatofur, he would certainly recognize the smell of ShoreClan. He wondered if Wapatofur would even recognize the smell of his own cousin.
He didn't want this moment to end. He wanted the sun to stay in the sky and for a moment, he almost wanted to curse StarClan for the fact that they were beginning to emerge and look down on them. He wondered what they thought about what was going on.
"I should, um, walk you back to the border," Beefur said, trying to sound brave about what he was doing, but it was probably quite clear that his voice was dripping in sadness. What they were doing was wrong by the word of the warrior code, wasn't it? Though it did say that you could have friendships so long as you wouldn't let it get in the way, but Beefur already found himself terrified that if he saw this she-cat in front of him in battle, he wouldn't be able to lay a single paw on her. If anything, he would almost want to protect her from his own Clanmates.
