[attr="class", container] [attr="class", name]— WAPATOSTAR — [attr="class", middle] [attr="class", text] Wapatostar, GaleClan’s new leader, had never felt so old and weary. Only two leafbares to his name, and already the tom’s body yearned for retirement. His limbs ached, his mind felt foggy and jumbled, and sleep evaded him almost every night now. He wasn’t a complete fool, though. He knew why. The back-to-back disappearances of Basilstar, Cora, and Nutriafang, as well as his sudden ascension to the proverbial throne, had aged him quickly. Fortunately Frozenkingdom had caught and covered up the rapid onset balding on his flank before Wapatostar’s first gathering as leader. Unfortunately, not even Frozenkingdom could hide the young leader’s notable weight loss. Once a brawny specimen, Wapatostar’s heavy coat now sagged in places where muscle and fat used to cling. Even the most oblivious cat would almost certainly notice his physical decline – which did not bode well for GaleClan’s reputation. First Basilstar mysteriously disappears, and then his measly deputy debuts as leader appearing grief-stricken and half-starved. Wapatostar knew how it would all look to those on the outside: that GaleClan might not be able to defend itself should disaster – or an enemy clan – strike. And it killed him inside, to know his grief might jeopardize his chosen clan’s safety. But the loss of his best friends gripped his heart too tight, and it took all his strength simply not to succumb to the persistent waves of melancholy that wracked his body. If not for Frozenkingdom and his new deputy Sparrowclaw, Wapatostar might have been far worse for wear. The duo, in their perpetual grumpiness, pressured him to eat and sleep and, on his worst days, stepped in to keep the clan running smoothly. But one day, they wouldn’t be so “patient” anymore, and he’d have to either sink or swim on his own. ‘I will almost certainly sink.’ Wapatostar, flanked on either side by Sparrowclaw and Frozenkingdom, trudged into the Cindersnap Glade clearing, his chosen clanmates for the gathering following close behind. ‘Then Sparrowclaw will take over for me and GaleClan will be strong once more. I’ve just gotta get through the first few appearances and then I can step down.’Wapatostar looked wearily around the clearing. Neither ShoreClan nor OrchidClan had arrived yet. This was good. Frozenkingdom and Sparrowclaw had agreed that GaleClan should reach the gathering place first to minimize scrutiny on the new leader. His drastic change in appearance would be less noticeable from high above. With a grateful nod to his medicine cat and deputy, Wapatofur scrambled up the tree where the leaders perched during the meeting. desolate moss

sparrowclaw
galeclan deputy
His first Gathering as deputy and Sparrowclaw was busy playing defense with the greatest offence he could manage. As they moved into the eerily quiet clearing, the smaller tom looked over his shoulder at the gathering of GaleClan cats, many of whom he'd picked himself when Wapatostar seemed too tired to think of much. While the leader seemed to be dragging himself from place to place, almost pathetically, Sparrowclaw knew simultaneously that he was a strong tom. Proud as the tabby was, and as much as becoming deputy was a moment of great honour, he would have never accepted the position under a truly weak leader without some perhaps ulterior motive. Yet even then, he knew that taking on such a secondary reason for his position would damage his ego.[break] [break] He'd spent his entire life separating himself from simply being seen as one trying to step into the pawsteps of Galestar, but now that he was here, there was a small part of him that hoped his ancestor stood beside him. He wished he could whisper to founding father of GaleClan to grant his strength to Wapatostar and to the whole of GaleClan tonight, for they would need it if they were to get through this Gathering in one piece.[break] [break] Once Wapatostar had screambled up to his position, Sparrowclaw sat in the dirt, a growl emitting in his throat only loud enough for Frozenkingdom, sitting next to him, to hear. "Galestar grant us strength," he said. Sparrowclaw wasn't normally a rather religious cat, which Frozenkingdom would be more than well aware of, but there was a change happening in GaleClan, and it was affecting all of them. The deputy and medicine cat had been carrying a great amount of weight on their shoulders since Basilstar's disappearance, but Sparrowclaw still felt somewhere deep down that they would get through this. Wapatostar would whip into shape - whether or not it was true in the end, it was all that he had to hold onto in order to keep his own sanity together.
aesop
galeclan elder
"Thank you, Pollenpaw," Aesop said to their granddaughter, who had insisted on their coming to the Gathering.[break] [break] It had been seasons since the elder had attended a Gathering. When their sight had begun to fail them, they'd worried that it would take them too long to get to the Glade once again, that they would slow down the rest of their Clan. It did not help that all they had left of their sight was dependant entirely on light, so most of what was around them was nothing but darkness, save for the sliver of moonlight that they could almost feel on their patterned coat. Still, it was their granddaughter's first Gathering, and she wanted them there more than anything in the forest, it seemed, and so, Aesop felt the need to grant Pollenpaw her wish.[break] [break] The elder pressed their nose to their granddaughter's forehead. "Promise me you'll meet with other apprentices once they arrive, alright? Don't be sitting next to your old grandparent the entire night, ya hear?" they purred. Aesop had to admit, there was a small part of them that wanted to know if they even knew anyone else who would come that night. They were sure that by this age, many of the first cats they'd met at their first Gathering were long dead, but it was never too late to be surprised.

Frozenkingdom
The past little while had been rough on Galeclan, and himself, and more importantly on Wapatostar. It had taken time but Frozenkingdom had managed to find a renewed strength in himself to push down his own pain - something he had become painfully good at doing. The deep depression that had seemed to settle in their new leader was one he was personally familiar with. He had not been as harsh on his friend, but it was a matter of time before he dug into him. Eventually he would have to push past this mourning and find his footing on solid ground.
Being first into his den in the morning and nearly force feeding his leader a few times, Frozenkingdom may or may not have given him a little herb mix to help him have enough strength to attend this gathering, to be able to stand as tall as possible and make sure that they weren’t seen as weak. Carefully following near the front of the group for once, he was carried with determination, a fire in his own eyes that he also saw in Sparrowclaw. Unlike the Deputy though, he would have to play a little nicer.
“Stand tall, Wapatostar - know we are standing with you.” he muttered before his friend took his place, separating from the rest. Looking at Sparrowclaw his ears flicked at the others' comment to his ancestor. His own face was rough and he simply nodded to the smaller tabby, before turning his gaze towards the entrance, “He’ll be fine.” he reassured. Unsure if it was to himself, or for Sparrowclaw, it was something needed to be said.
Applecrisp
Honestly? She was nervous. She hadn’t been to a gathering since she was an apprentice, and this felt completely out of the blue. Why did Sparrowclaw choose her? She figured he would have found her a liability - after all, she wasn’t as scary and intimidating as the rest of the warriors. Oh Starclan, this was not what she had in mind. She had managed to follow the group in silence, letting the tension rise as she nervously followed. She may not be the most involved in her clan but the vanishing of Basilstar had rocked her, and what’s more Nutriabite had also vanished. She thought they had been good friends, and now she was alone again.
With her tail low, she watched as her clanmate seemed to scatter. Unsure where to go, or if there were going to be any familiar faces she shuffled off towards the edge of the clearing. Curling her tail over her dainty white paws she watched the cats, cautiously watching the entrance - maybe she could see her new friend for Shoreclan, even for a bit. Maybe it would help calm all of these uneasy feelings bubbling up inside.
Morningstar
It was routine, Bullwasp collected their team and they headed out. Morningstar had never been opinionated on gatherings. It was a great time to scout out any weaknesses in the other two clans, and see where they stood in the midst of it. Aside from the rough Leaf-Bare they previously had, Orchidclan had made a strong recovery and was just as strong as before. Granted they had yet to deal with their little fox problem, but for now they had not come closer and left them to their own devices. So it would have to do for now.
The small tabby she-cat led the way with the same confidence and pride she always did. Crossing the fallen log into the clearing, the landed with grace and looked around, mild annoyance flashing across her face for a second. Galeclan beat them there? Since when? They were always last to arrive. That didn’t sit well with the seasoned leader, and it sat even less well with her when she noticed that a certain deputy wasn’t sulking in his normal spot.
Looking over her shoulder as Bullwasp closed in, she flicked her tail towards the tree as if to say ‘check that out’ before she turned back and headed towards the tree. She gave Sparrowclaw half a glance before she jumped up with ease to her normal spot in the tree. Taking her seat with practiced grace, he eyed up the long furred tabby and noted how much smaller he seemed these days,
“Wapatofur, lovely to see you as always.” she purred before the real question dropped, “Is Basilstar not joining us tonight?”

Minkstar. Minkstar, only a week or so prior, had been ill. The illness had struck her for several days, but aside from a little bit of weight loss from the constant vomiting, the Shoreclan leader had made a full recovery. The stocky tabby stood as sternly as she always did, with a new light to her eyes that had vanished with her sudden illness. In the days since her recovery, her appetite had been voracious, so much so that the leader found herself having to check herself so as not to give into the urge to keep eating until she had made up for what she had lost.
She led the cats towards the Glade, not quite running full tilt but certainly close. She had expected to be perhaps the first or second to arrive at the Gathering because they had left a bit earlier than they normally would have. But, as Minkstar slowed her approach and took a moment to analyze the air close to the entrance, she noticed something that disturbed her slightly. Both Orchidclan and Galeclan had arrived, leaving Shoreclan as the last to arrive. She glanced toward Heronfrost with a curious look before taking the plunge into the entrance tunnel. Shoreclan cats filed out behind her as Minkstar made her way toward the tree that the leaders perched upon. She paused only to check that everyone who had accompanied them had made it into the Glade without issue before she clambered up the tree and took her place.
“Morningstar,” she said, dipping her head politely to the other leader. She looked curiously at Wapatofur, a question lingering in her eyes. As she took in the sight of the Galeclan deputy. However, a sinking feeling began to settle in Minkstar’s stomach. Wapatofur looked worse for wear, and a younger warrior had taken his usual place where the deputies sat during the Gatherings. Not that Minkstar was particularly close to Basilstar, but he was still the friendlier of the other two leaders. His absence was felt, and Minkstar had a feeling in her chest that he might not be joining them for any other Gatherings. As far as Minkstar knew, Basilstar had not lost many — if any — of his lives. Surely the young leader couldn’t have been afflicted by something that had taken them all? One of her ears twitched back against her skull for a small moment. Had he, too, disappeared?
For a moment, Minkstar flashed back to the days following Jellyfishstar’s own sudden disappearance and the anxiety that she’d felt when first facing Starclan. Was Wapatofur now Wapatostar? Minkstar could only assume so, given the tom’s haggard appearance and his usual place being taken by a new tom.
Minnowpool. Minnowpool stayed close to the back of the group of Shoreclan cats, taking up the position as the last to ensure that no one fell behind the swarm. The silver she-cat was the last to push into the Glade, her gaze sweeping around to take in the scene. Shoreclan had been the last to arrive, which was a bit unusual. The next thing she noticed was that Wapatofur, Galeclan’s deputy, was sitting upon the branch that Basilstar usually held as his own. Minnowpool tilted her head slightly to the side, her gaze flickering toward Heronfrost as he took his spot amongst the deputies at the base of the tree. She was sure that they would be given some details, but she would have to remember to ask Heronfrost later if he had gotten any more information on the situation.
The she-cat shook her head slightly, giving a small sigh before she moved out amongst the crowd. She settled beside a small she-cat, who looked more nervous than anything to be there. Minnowpool felt she had seen the she-cat once or twice before in her life, and she had a feeling that the other’s name was Apple-something, although she couldn’t be fully sure at the moment.
“Hello there,” she said. “Do you mind if I sit here? Or were you saving the spot for someone else?” She gestured toward the spot beside the other she-cat, which was empty and far enough away to be comfortable with two cats who were strangers to each other. She wanted to be friendly, however, and figured that she could take the opportunity to try to meet someone outside of Shoreclan instead of sitting in the midst of their ranks only.
Lavenderwhisker. As always, Lavenderwhisker was thrilled to have been chosen to come to the Gathering. The she-cat loved the opportunity to see other cats outside of Orchidclan. She was a sociable creature by nature and didn’t enjoy the notion that she couldn’t have friends outside of Orchidclan. She filed in the middle of the Orchidclan group, taking a moment to peer around. They were the second clan to arrive at the Gathering, which struck her as a bit unusual. She didn’t — at least at first — notice that Basilstar was not amongst the branches of the Leader’s tree.
The long-furred ginger cat padded toward the middle of the clearing, taking a seat in the middle of an empty spot that would still have room for a few other cats to sit around her. She watched as Morningstar made her way up to the tree and up to the branches. It was then that Lavenderwhisker noticed Basilstar was absent, and instead, the Galeclan deputy was sitting in his place. ’That’s strange,’ Lavenderwhisker thought to herself. ‘I wonder where Basilstar is.’ She glanced around, noticing that some of the Galeclan cats looked a little more tense than usual. Was something going on?
Timberwolf. It had been quite some time since the old tom had attended a Gathering. But, a warm night and a decent day had enabled him some energy, and along with a herbal concoction, his joints weren’t bothering him at all in the moment. He’d asked if he could attend, and Morningstar and Bullwasp had agreed to allow him to join. His argument had been that it could be the last one that he attended in his life, and he wanted the joy of it once more, to run and be with the Orchidclan party once more.
As they entered the Glade, Timberwolf took a moment to step to the side, catching his breath as he looked around. It had been some time since he’d attended a Gathering, and truthfully, he didn’t notice that there was anything amiss with Galeclan’s attending party. He did see an old, familiar face amongst the crowd. The tom’s ears perked up a bit as he padded toward the other elder.
“Aesop,” the graying tom greeted, loud enough for them to hear, but was aware from their expression that they might not be able to see him in the dim moonlight. “It’s Timberwolf. How have you been? It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen you.”
Cavernpelt. Things had been tense within Galeclan. Cavernpelt was still feeling the unexpected absence of Basilstar and felt bad for Wapatostar. As they entered the clearing, Cavernpelt noticed that they were the first to arrive. He watched as Wapatostar went to the tree, painfully aware of how thin the once proud deputy had become. Cavernpelt had seen a lot of movement amongst the high ranks within his life, but he had never seen a deputy take a leader’s disappearance so hard. The senior warrior wondered if Wapatostar somehow felt responsible for Basilstar’s disappearance. The tom knew that the other had nothing to do with it, and it had been a surprise for the whole clan.
But there was nothing that he could do about it.
So, in light of that, Cavernpelt had stepped up as much as he could, assisting where he could, as was his duty as a senior warrior. There wasn’t anything else that he could do, and he had to be content with what he could do. Moments passed as the Galeclan party found their places in what would soon be a crowded glade. Cavernpelt chose a choice spot close to where the deputies sat. As he settled, he heard rustling in the entrance, prompting the reddish tom to turn his head as Orchidclan began streaming in. Shoreclan followed shortly after, being unusually late — or was everyone else just unusually early?
Shortwave. The short journey to the Glade was a quick one. Shortwave could feel the tension that had taken hold over Galeclan, its weight settling on his shoulders as if someone had placed a boulder between his shoulder blades. The usually logical but still somewhat strange Tom stayed close to the middle of the group on the journey there, trying not to give himself over to the wave of anxiety that seemed to strike most of the attending Galeclanners.
As they entered and found themselves the first in the Glade, Shortwave took a spot that was farther away from the tree, one where he could observe for the most part. Orchidclan and the Shoreclan were soon joining them in the Glade. Shortwave scanned the faces for anyone familiar – or at least friendly looking to interact with.

As she had watched the cats come filtering in as Orchidclan, and shortly Shoreclan, came to join the rest of them. Everyone was here now, and while some could take that as a perfect time to mingle and gossip with old friends - some might see it as a sign that this would hopefully be over soon. Unfortunately neither of those were her thoughts. There was a small sinking in her stomach as everyone came in and went their own way, but there was one cat that was missing, one that she had been secretly hoping would show up. However her moping was cut short and she gave a small jump at a voice appearing nearby.
Blinking over in confusion she took in the sight of Minnowpool and glanced towards the area she motioned. Oh! She blinked up and offered a chuckle, “No, that spot’s not reserved, sorry I got a little lost in thought there,” she breathed and straightened up. Giving her chest a few quick licks to steady herself she watched the other she-cat settle in, “How has the past moon been treating you?” she inquired, trying to find some pleasantries to chatter about. While she was sad, that couldn’t hold her back from trying to make Galeclan appear stronger.

sparrowclaw
galeclan deputy
Sparrowclaw certainly heard that Frozenkingdom had spoken near him, but whether or not he registered what was said was something different entirely. There was a part of him that felt crushed by the weight of this Gathering - his first time as deputy and yet he somehow felt that he was carrying something much more in making sure GaleClan still stood strong and proud.[break] [break] He looked at the cats of GaleClan, scanning through them. Sure, some of them might have seemed like odd picks, but he also knew that there was something important to be said. If he had focused only on bringing the most intimidating and visibly strong cats to the Gathering, it would show that GaleClan was scared and had something to hide. It would be clear that they were trying to intimidate OrchidClan and ShoreClan. Simultaneously, they couldn't just bring the youngest and juniors and make themselves appear weak. No, they needed a good mix to show that it was business as usual, and it would be on Sparrowclaw's shoulders to send the message to Heronfrost and Bullwasp that he would not be one to mess with as deputy.[break] [break] This was something the tabby had wanted for a long time. To show that he was more than just his great-grandfather's name. That he was a cat who could be seen for his own strengths and rise to be someone great. He would not let Wapatostar's state crack his own shell. He would stand strong. He would stand proud. He would not shudder nor back down. Despite his smaller stature, especially beside a gargantuan like Bullwasp, he would hold his ground.
aesop
galeclan elder
As new scents began to mingle into the Glade, Aesop sent Pollenpaw off on her way. Their tail curled happily around their paws, excited to hear what she would return with on their trip home, hoping that the little chatterbox would come back excitedly with the news of acquantances from other Clans. Aesop knew that it had been so long they would likely have a hard time placing where each of the cats she would meet would come from, but it would still be heartening to hear that ShoreClan and OrchidClan were thriving with their own youth.[break] [break] At the sound of a friendly voice, their ears perked. "Timberwolf?" they responded, their voice filled with an excited familiarity. There was also a sense of ease that filled their body to know that, perhaps they weren't the oldest one here. Though the tom only had a couple of moons over them, as far as they could remember, there was still a feeling of gratitude in them yet. They purred almost instantly at the sound and scents of someone who held as much history in them as Aesop might have. "I've been as well as one can without sight," they chuckled. "I'm glad to know I'm not the oldest sack of bones at this Gathering," Aesop teased.
beefur
shoreclan warrior
When Beefur was first selected to attend the Gathering, there was truly only one thing on his mind: would she be there? The GaleClan cat who hadn't escaped his mind since they'd first met. The she-cat whose name he'd stupidly forgotten to ask for? His mind had been racing, and he tried his best not to show an overeagerness that wasn't beyond expectation for him.[break] [break] There were typically other exciting things going on at Gatherings that he looked forward to. After all, his family was now cross-Clan, and the chance to see his cousins was something that Beefur often appreciated. So when he entered the Glade behind the rest of ShoreClan, and spotted a tabby tom - Sparrowclaw, he was sure - sitting with Bullwasp and Heronfrost, he froze for a moment. Where was Wapatofur? He searched the clearing for a moment and noticed that Nutriapaw also wasn't among the chosen cats - maybe she just wasn't chosen that night, but that didn't explain why the deputy wouldn't be called forward.[break] [break] That was until the ginger and white tom's gaze went up towards where the leaders were gathered. Perhaps he should have been excited to see Wapatofur up there - or was it Wapatostar now? Basilstar was still rather young, wasn't he? Had something happened to him?[break] [break] And worse - had something happened to Wapatostar? Something about his appearance from Beefur's distance made his fur crawl along his spine uncomfortably. He couldn't place his nose on it, but something about his cousin's frame made him feel small. As long as Beefur had been alive, he'd practically looked up to the tom who fled ShoreClan and found a new home and family in GaleClan. Perhaps it was a strange kind of cat to look up to, but he was someone who was carving his own story, and something about that filled Beefur in a sort of pride. But what he felt for the shagged tom high above the cats below was not pride, it was an unease and anxiousness that filled him with near dread.
dipperpaw
orchidclan medicine cat apprentice
Dipperpaw was always filled with unease, anxiousness and dread.[break] [break] Gatherings were the absolute worst. He hated them with a passion and Ice-eyes knew this, but she also knew that Dipperpaw would have to be convinced every single time that it was important that he go, and she would always win the argument in the end. It was his duty as a medicine cat - yes, even as a medicine cat apprentice - that he make an appearance at each and every Gathering. Yes, that meant for the rest of his life so long as he was still a medicine cat. No, he could not retire at his age when he was still as fit as any other cat. No, that fake limp is not convincing enough to get out of the Gathering.[break] [break] He felt more uncomfortable than usual crossing into the Glade that evening. It felt as though something was crawling between his ears that he just couldn't get out. As they got closer into the clearing, he could practically feel some of the tension sparking between the cats more than usual. Gatherings were, to his understanding, supposed to be a time of peace, weren't they? So why did it feel that something was... different?[break] [break] Oh.[break] [break] When Dipperpaw watched Morningstar take her usual place, his eyes went wide. Basilstar was gone. In the former leader's place was what seemed like a shell of Wapatofur, and things quickly began to spin in the apprentice's head. What happened to Basilstar? Where did he go? Had some great predator come and taken every single life of the leader in a quick swipe? Would they come and swipe through every cat, despite the great strength they were meant to exude?[break] [break] His eyes darted to Minkstar, remembering that it had not been long ago that Jellyfishstar had also disappeared.[break] [break] Where were these cats disappearing to, left and right? Why were the cats who were lofted high by the great cats of StarClan seemingly vanishing without a trace? Would the same thing happen to Morningstar? Was it only a matter of time?[break] [break] "Ice-eyes... Basilstar is gone... And Wapatofur doesn't look too good..." Dipperpaw whispered to the medicine cat, knowing that she couldn't see what he saw. But she would certainly be able to hear the shaking in the young tom's voice. Oh stars, what was happening?

HeronfrostHeronfrost followed dutifully at Minkstar's shoulder. It was, frankly, the most relaxed he'd been since he was made deputy. He was so so SO glad Minkstar had recovered from her sickness. The thought of leading ShoreClan toward a Gathering was not one he relished.
He instinctively slowed at the same time she did, and noted the same thing she did. The curious glance Minkstar shot him was returned, and he could only shrug at her in response. He had less of an idea than she did.
ShoreClan endered the Glade, and Heronfrost dutifully remained by Minkstar's side until every cat had made it in. He didn't follow her to the tree right away, choosing instead to wait until Minnowpool crossed his path. "Get whatever info you can." he hissed quietly to her. She was a friendlier face, one cats might be more willing to trust.
He made his way toward the tree and noted the absence of Basilstar. Which meant... well, one of two things. Either things hadn't gone well in GaleClan lately, or there was a sickness that was crossing borders and Basilstar was struck down with the same illness that Minkstar had just recovered from.
From the look of Wapatofur, though... Heronfrost wasn't a gambling tom, but he'd bet a moon's worth of dawn patrols it wasn't something as simple as an illness.
The place the deputies gathered was occupied already. Not surprising, since ShoreClan had been the last to arrive. Sparrowclaw sat in the spot previously occupied by Wapatofur, and Heronfrost gave him a nod of greeting. "Sparrowclaw. I'd ask but you'd just tell me to mind my own business. So I won't."

Iceeyes had noticed a lack of Basilstar's scent but she was thankful for Dipperpaw's observation. Wapatofur looked worse for wear huh? "What does he look like? Its good to make observations now so we can report anything to Morningstar when we get home from the gathering." She says softly for only Dipperpaw to hear. She could hear the worry in his voice and smell the fear and worry from all the cats in the clearing.
Things were getting worse within the clans and she didn't know what was going on. At this point she has to try to be a silent observer until such time as she knew what was going on.

Frozenkingdom
Maybe it was just the way he looked, but something about him tonight made the Medicine Cat seem far less injured. In fact, he had hardly noticed the phantom pains that often caused him long days and nights. Right now, he was fresh from training - a warrior ready for battle. As the cats started to filter into the Glade, Frozen had begun his walk through the seas of cats, making sure to size up every cat from Shoreclan and Orchidclan. Sure he was bound by his own code to heal and protect - but no matter what, Galeclan would always take his priority. Let alone his leader and friend. He lost enough cats he cared about, he would be damned if he let that happen again.
With a meaner mug then normal he watched as Orchidclan joined and he looked for the familiar white she-cat and the young anxious cat she was training. Carefully keeping an eye on Aesop as they headed out to find their old friend. He watched the old cat's granddaughter race off, probably over the moon to be there for the first time. He was glad to see some kind of spark in her eyes since she hadn’t been able to get as much training in since the vanishing of Basilstar. Wapatostar had been devastated and it had taken a lot of work from Sparrowclaw and himself to get him to where he was now. He really hoped that Pollenpaw was doing alright.
Ears twitching at the hushed sound of Iceeyes’ whispering to her apprentice he felt a small growl rise in his throat. It may be a time of peace, but that never said he had to be in a good, or trusting mood. Lashing his tail he made his approach, his entire demeanour less welcoming then it was the first time he met young Dipperpaw, “Iceeyes, Dipperpaw. You both look well. I take it Orchidclan is doing better now?” he stated, more in a matter-of-fact tone then one of friendly chatter.
Applecrisp
While there was absolutely nothing wrong with making friendly chatter with Minnowpool, she was finding it hard to keep herself grounded at the moment. She was lost in her thoughts for a moment as she continuously scanned the crowds for a familiar face she had been longing to see for what felt like eternity. However after what felt like forever the sea of cats began to part as everyone found someone to sit with and chat with. Almost as if everything stopped for a moment, she saw him and his heart skipped.
However her little moment was short lived as she noticed the others expression. He was so lost staring up at the tree where Wapatostar sat. She could feel her heart sink in her chest and looked between them. She knew how bad he looked at the moment, it was rough on him. Not only had Basilstar been his leader, but also a close friend. Since things changed, he had been carefully watched by Frozenkingdom and Sparrowclaw, and they had been working hard to keep everyone in a better mindset - trying to keep their clan strong. Looking over at Minnowpool she motioned to Beefur, “He looks like he could use a nudge, I’ll be right back!” she promised with a warm smile at the other she-cat.
Getting up she made her way over towards the other. Everything seemed off with him at this moment and she felt a pang in her chest. She was so used to seeing his warm and energetic smile and carefree laughter - this was not like him. Reaching his side she gave him a small nudge with his paw, “Hey, is everything okay?” she asked, her voice full of concern for her friend. Realizing how things may look she mentally took a few steps back. “I’m Applecrisp! I’m sitting over there with someone, if you want to come join us?” she offered, giving the Shoreclan tom a warm smile.

[attr="class", container] [attr="class", name]— WAPATOSTAR — [attr="class", middle] [attr="class", text] Time seemed to move quickly for Wapatostar now. Minkstar and Morningstar materialized beside him on the tree in what felt like mere seconds. He flinched at their sudden appearance, fear shooting through him as his fatigued legs wobbled on the branch. The GaleClan leader dug his claws into the bark, righting himself, and gritted his teeth. How much time had passed since his arrival to the Glade? The meeting hadn’t even started, and he was already losing his focus, if not his mind. ‘You just need to make it through this meeting. That’s all you have to do.’ He told himself as he greeted each leader with an awkward dip of his head. “Wapatofur, lovely to see you as always. Is Basilstar not joining us tonight?” Morningstar’s saccharine voice sent shivers down the leader’s spine. Wapatostar was no genius, but even he recognized her scorn for Basilstar’s “weak” leadership and, by proxy, her low opinion of GaleClan. Frozenkingdom had even mentioned in the past that he’d seen her eyeing GaleClan territory from afar. If Wapatostar needed to convince any cat that GaleClan was still strong enough to defend itself, it was Morningstar. “No, Basilstar will not be joining us.” The tom’s normally deferential tone bordered on curt. He loathed talking to someone who would soon celebrate his clan’s collective agony. “Basilstar has–disappeared.” He felt his face burn from telling a blatant half-truth. Sure, Basilstar had vanished. But the black-and-white tom was also dead – a reality that no one except Wapatostar and his dead ancestors knew for certain. He discovered the truth at the Moon Springs when Basilstar stepped out of the ether to give him his last life. That was three nights ago, and Wapatostar still had not told a living soul, not even Frozenkingdom or Sparrowclaw. He knew he had to eventually. Basilstar’s family especially deserved to know. But Wapatostar couldn’t yet bring himself to utter the words. “I have stepped up as leader in Basilstar’s absence,” Wapatostar continued, his voice growing more confident. “I’ve received my nine lives and chosen Sparrowclaw as my deputy.” He lifted his head and met Morningstar’s gaze unflinchingly. As Sparrowclaw and Frozenkingdom said, he was still a physically impressive cat and he should act like it. desolate moss

sparrowclaw
galeclan deputy
Sparrowclaw gave his usual huff of amusement at Heronfrost's words. He certainly wasn't far off, though the deputy wouldn't pretend like there wasn't more on his mind. There was a part of him, deep down, that wanted to ask if the ShoreClan deputy had seen Nutriafang, if perhaps she had returned back to where she was born. He had no ill will towards his former apprentice if she had done just that, but it would have been nice to simply know that she was okay and not being chased down by coyotes and foxes.[break] [break] If perhaps it had just been the two of them, he wouldn't be as worried about the mention of a missing warrior. But the tabby's ears twitched uncomfortably in the presence of Bullwasp, who was nearly twice the size of the small tom, and was certainly being tasked with trying to pick apart any weakness in GaleClan's exterior for Morningstar. Tsk. It was meant to be a night of peace under the eyes of StarClan, and yet Sparrowclaw found himself having difficulties feeling as open with the other Clans as he knew his ancestors expected of him. How could he be open in being sure his former apprentice was safe and sound when other Clans could be using those words to see it as a point of weakness?[break] [break] And why should it even be seen as a weakness? Sparrowclaw had always been for cats changing Clans if they felt their loyalties lay elsewhere. It was one of the first things he'd said to Nutriafang when Basilstar had appointed her under his tutelage. It did not matter where a cat was born, only where their hearts lay. So long as they would not hesitate to protect their Clan against blood family, Sparrowclaw saw no issue.[break] [break] His tail twitched. "I'm glad to know my reputation proceeds me," he responded to Heronfrost, a tint of amusement found somewhere in the way he spoke. It certainly wasn't a lie to be happy that other cats saw him as intimidating and a tough shell to crack, despite his small stature. "All there is to know is that GaleClan is the strongest it has been in many moons, and we serve to only grow stronger with a good leader ahead of us," he spoke, his words carrying the truth he genuinely believed. Some cats knew he hadn't been entirely fond of Basilstar, and Sparrowclaw genuinely believed that Wapatostar was a strong cat, who could serve to be a great leader once his head was on straight. But those last words would remain quiet in his mind.[break] [break] "I take all is well in ShoreClan. Any new warriors or litters?" he asked in an attempt to make small talk, something he truly loathed but at least served as a way to get the gaze off of GaleClan. While the intention of asking about warriors was meant to ask about any promoted apprentices, perhaps Heronfrost might let out word of a certain she-cat, should he be so lucky. If not, Sparrowclaw simply had to rely on some of the other cats to come back to him with any news in hopes to hear that Nutriafang was safe.
dipperpaw
orchidclan medicine cat apprentice
The skittish apprentice tried to take in the account of Wapatofur up above the gathering of cats below as he spoke with Morningstar and Minkstar. He seemed almost malnourished, despite what must have been good eating in GaleClan with the warmer moons dawning. Besides, the rest of GaleClan looked as fit and healthy as ever. But there was something more to the declining state of the leader, something more than just a lack of food. It was as though something perhaps was missing altogether. It took only a moment longer to almost feel as though there was a profound sadness from the leader, a lonliness and fear that Dipperpaw almost thought he could relate to. A desire to just be locked away from the cats around him, and an even deeper desire to be no where near the Gathering this night. Stars above, the things Dipperpaw would do to just be somewhere other than here.[break] [break] The small black-and-white tom opened his mouth to speak before his words were cut off.[break] [break] "Iceeyes, Dipperpaw. You both look well. I take it OrchidClan is doing better now?"[break] [break] Frozenkingdom's approach brought a squeak and a jump from Dipperpaw, something that was thankfully expected of him rather than any sign that he might have been speaking any ill will of Wapatofur. Fact of the matter was, Dipperpaw could never imagine speaking ill of the new leader. He certainly sympathized with him - perhaps feeling like he wasn't up to the gargantuan task placed before him and wishing nothing more than to just swallow himself up in darkness away from prying eyes. But Frozenkingdom's less-than-friendly tone certainly made Dipperpaw's fur twitch along his spine.[break] [break] Oh stars... what if Frozenkingdom heard me? What if he thinks I'm plotting something with Ice-eyes? What if he tells Wapatofur and Sparrowclaw and they launch some great plan to get me killed? Dipperpaw's head began to spin through the worst case scenarios almost immediately, as the words were unable to debut from his stature. He'd have to do his best to just tell Ice-eyes what he saw later...
beefur
shoreclan warrior
Beefur, not usually one to be startled, jumped the slightest at the nudge and sound of another cat nearby. He'd been so lost looking at Wapatofur, thinking about the cat he once looked up to looking so forlorn, he had forgotten about the world around him. Admittedly, it was very unlike the ginger and white tom to end up so lost in his thoughts.[break] [break] His mind seemed to do blackflips the second he realized who was talking to him. His eyes went wide, dilating with an excitement he had to force himself to dial back. She was here. She was here. She was here. It took everything inside the tom not to be his usual self, to bounce around with her and shout at the top of the lungs.[break] [break] But wait, what did she say? Beefur had to pull himself together.[break] [break] Applecrisp.[break] [break] His heart raced. He finally knew her name. The she-cat who had not left his mind had a name and he finally knew what it was.[break] [break] Applecrisp.[break] [break] How lovely it sounded...[break] [break] "I'm Beefur," he said in response and in restraint, wondering how she might hear the name in response. Would it be as angelic to her as her name was to him? Would it send butterflies not just into her stomach but through her fur and into her paws? Would she feel the same need to restrain herself and hold herself back from shouting it with excitement at the stars above?[break] [break] But when he looked back to where the leaders stood, his heart shattered once more. He felt so torn inside, finally knowing the name of the cat who he... finally knowing Applecrisp's name. But at the same time, a cat who he once admired looked so broken up high, in a position that perhaps he should have felt so much pride for. Was Wapatofur now leader? Why wasn't he proud and excited, at such a young age, to achieve such an incredible goal?[break] [break] Beefur managed to miss the last words that Applecrisp said, his geen gaze still locked up high. "Is Wapatofur okay?" he asked, feeling torn from looking from Wapatofur to Applecrisp. One sight broke his heart, while the other sight seemed to heal it in an instant, and yet he couldn't stop looking both ways.

Minkstar. Minkstar, as she observed the situation materializing on the branches around her, became acutely aware of something that she had always felt since she was made deputy, something that felt like forever ago, but in reality… it truly wasn’t more than a few passing of the seasons. The Shoreclan leader became more aware of the fact that the Orchidclan leader, Morningstar, was perceptive when it came to the weaknesses of the other two clans. ‘Why does she care so much?’ Minkstar wondered, having a lingering spark of apprehension settling in her stomach, threatening to turn from a mere spark into a steadily growing flame. There was something about the way that the other leader latched onto Wapatofur — or, perhaps now Wapatostar’s — obvious distress and weakness. The other seemed… Almost thrilled with the fact that another clan was clearly weaker than her own. Minkstar was careful to keep her expressions guarded, not wanting to give any indication as to where her thoughts may be going. But, in truth, the Shoreclan leader didn’t like and had never truly liked the way that Morningstar seemed to revel in the weakness of others. Minkstar decided then that there was a flaw in Morningstar’s character — even though they were of different clans, the clans themselves were not truly so old in the grand scheme of things, and Minkstar felt that there should still be some semblance of cohesiveness amongst the leaders. That they should be more willing to support each other rather than feed on the weaknesses of others like leeches in a swamp.
It was a revelation that disturbed her on a deeper level than many other things had before.
In Minkstar’s mind, it did not bode well for their collective safety when one of the three deemed weakness in others to be a benefit rather than a hindrance.
“No, Basilstar will not be joining us,” Wapatofur — no, Wapatostar, as was clear in Minkstar’s eyes now — said. “Basilstar has — disappeared.” Disappeared. The word was a stunning one, one that, despite her stoic expression, rocked Minkstar to her core. Another leader had vanished? Were there more details, or… Was it another leader’s disappearance that would hang without clear answers? She felt a thousand questions bubbling up within her throat, the more pressing of which was whether Basilstar had been present at Wapatostar’s leadership ceremony with Starclan. The Shoreclan leader would never ask such a personal question, however. It was not her right or place to do so, but its implications weighed heavily on her mind. If there was a second leader who had vanished without a trace but had not been seen among Starclan’s ranks… It opened the question of what was happening to the leaders of the clans. Minkstar would probably never know, though, unless she saw the former leader with stars clinging to his pelt.
“I have stepped up as leader in Basilstar’s absence. I received my nine lives and chosen Sparrowclaw as my deputy.” Wapatostar stated. Minkstar dipped her head slightly.
“I welcome you to our ranks then, Wapatostar. I’m sorry that your clan has gone through such hardship. I know how it feels to have a leader vanish unexpectedly, and I wish you and Galeclan an easy settling period as you all adjust,” Minkstar said, her voice and expression earnest.
Minnowpool. Minnowpool hovered for a moment near Heronfrost as she took in the situation that, at this point, was not quite novel but still new enough to draw her attention. It was not the first time that a young leader had suddenly been replaced by their deputy, and it would most certainly not be the last as the clans went on through the rotation of the seasons. The she-cat felt a pang for the Galeclan cats — it was not easy adjusting to a new leader, especially in the wake of one’s death or disappearance, but life went on in the neverending march of time.
“Get whatever info you can,” Heronfrost hissed in her ear. Minnowpool only nodded before she continued on into the crowd of the Gathering.
As she came to ask her question of the young Galeclan she-cat, who seemed surprised that she’d spoken to her at all. Minnowpool offered a small smile, a twitch of her whiskers in slight amusement.
“No, that spot’s not reserved sorry I got a little lost in thought there,” the other said.
“Oh, that’s alright. It happens,” Minnowpool meowed as she took her seat.
“How has the past moon been treating you?” The other asked.
“Not bad – I’m just glad that things are beginning to warm up, and I no longer have to feel the last little bit of Leafbare chill beneath my paws,” Minnowpool said. “The obvious aside, how about you?” she asked, her gaze studying the other she-cat. While there was an obvious sadness within the other’s eyes that could not be hidden, that did not seem to be the source of her distraction as Minnowpool noticed she was scanning the crowd for someone. She seemed to find whoever she was looking for.
“He looks like he could use a nudge, I’ll be right back!” She said, a warm smile touching her features before she got up and made her way across the relative feline sea. Minnowpool smiled back, giving a small sigh. ‘Well, so much for a companion,’ she thought as she watched the other approach Beefur. Minnowpool observed the situation for a moment, her head tilted slightly to the side. ‘I wonder what’s going on there,’ Minnowpool thought.
Timberwolf. Timberwolf was glad that the old cat seemed to be doing well despite the obvious lack of slight. He settled down beside them, unable to help the small sound that came from him as his legs protested a seating position after having been up and moving for much longer than he was used to anymore. There was a small pop within his hips, a relief of the pressure that they felt at the angel change.
“I’ve been as well as one can without sight. I’m glad to know I’m not the oldest sack of bones at this Gathering,” Aesop said with a chuckle. Timberwolf couldn’t help but chuckle, touched by a quiet, aged wheeze.
“I wanted to come at least one last time before these old bones won’t let me anymore,” the tom said. “It seems like I picked an interesting one to come to. Seems like there’s going to be a lot of news to be had.” He cast his eyes around for a moment, almost reveling in the memories of the times he’d come to Gatherings as a much younger cat.
“Who was the youngster with you?” he asked curiously.

Iceeyes smelled the older tom before he said something. She turned her ears toward his voice and did a quick bob of her head in greeting. No need to let Frozenkingdom think they were doing anything suspicious. "Hello Frozenkingdom. Orchidclan has been healthy at the very least. New kits were just delivered less than a moon ago. Four strong kits and the queen is doing well." She replies.
"How is Basilstar? I do not smell his scent and Dipperpaw had mentioned he was missing from the gathering as far as he could see." She didnt want him thinking they were talking behind his back. Its best to ask the tom directly. he didnt take lightly to whispers or secrets. He has sharp hearing and might have heard what they were saying anyway and hopefully it would ease the shake Dipperpaw had suddenly developed.

Dreamtailgaleclan warrior
When GaleClan arrived, Dreamtail was a cat on a mission. She settled into a spot where she could see her father, brother, and cousin clearly—a protective web of Galestar's descendants across the clearing. Her goal was to head off hazardous gossip at the pass and redirect the conversation onto safer topics, or move to subtly aid her clanmates if the need arose. Her tricolor tail lashed against the ground. As the other clans made their appearances, she picked herself off the ground and moved up to greet an Orchidclan cat sitting by herself. "It's been a while since I made it to one of these," she told Lavenderwhisker, a fond warmth evident in her voice. "The kits are finally out of the nursery." Gullwindshoreclan warrior
Gullwind stalked into the clearing, her fur already prickling with faint annoyance that the other clans had beaten them there. What did they do, camp out on the island all day? She snorted. Her eyes flicked up to the deputies. Where was—ah. There was GaleClan's deserter of a deputy, sitting up in his leader's usual place. Gullwind raked the ground with her claws contemplatively, then shrugged one bony shoulder and chose her companions for the night. Minnowpool was sitting at a respectful distance from a GaleClan cat who seemed to be making her way back with Beefur in tow. Gullwind vaguely recognized her—a silly little thing, easily flustered. Maybe she was too easy a target. But she was already flanked by two ShoreClan cats. It had been a while since Gullwind had played a quieter role. Could be fun. She waited for Applecrisp to halt, then slunk over and flopped down, closer than Minnowpool had dared—Gullwind shot her a wink—and neatly capping a triangle with her clanmates around the GaleClan warrior. Beefur was asking the question on everyone's mind, though maybe not in the way Gullwind would've phrased it. Oh, right. Wapatofur was his cousin or something. Gullwind gave another soft snort and focused on grooming her pawpads. Pouncebloomorchidclan warrior
Pouncebloom was not a conniving cat. They took in the scene: clan cats in the moonlight, a shaggy brown tabby in Basilstar's place. They walked over to Shortwave, the nearest GaleClan cat they could see. "Where's Basilstar?"

It had been clear since the moment they left camp, Frozenkingdom was easily different than he normally was. Even now as he faced his Medicine Cat peers, he wasn’t his usual calm and polite self. He was hardened and ready to fight any battle. While he had expected questions and chatter, he didn’t expect to see the pair whispering amongst themselves. HIs mismatched gaze turned to Dipperpaw, the young thing looked even more on edge then he normally was. Well that was a good indicator that Frozenkingdom definitely had his mean mug on today. With his tail lashing he turned his attentions back to the white she-cat he had known for many seasons,
“Glad to hear Orchidclan is doing well.” he stated, “Basilstar will not be joining us.” he stated shortly. Slowly moving to sit, he looked down at Dipperpaw who was about ready to bolt, “Wapatostar has received his nine lives and Galeclan is strong and ready to prove it.” he finished. He knew that Iceeyes would know what he meant by the lives. While Wapatostar had yet to come out and say what happened at the ceremony - the fact that he got the lives said everything it needed to. Now if Dipperpaw understood what this really meant, this would be something else.
Applecrisp
Beefur? The name was so simple and yet so busy, and it made her heart smile. Finally she had a name to the face that was constantly on her mind. The weight of the gathering was nothing in comparison to having finally gotten the smallest bit of information that would change so much. However there was a small pain in her chest as she noticed that he was glancing between her and Wapatostar, ah yes. He didn’t look too good, but she didn’t want her clan to seem weak, but more importantly she didn’t want to see the sadness that was on his face either. No, happiness suited him so much better.
“Wapatostar has been a little sad lately, but he’s doing better.” she mewed softly to her companion as she guided him back to where Minnowpool had been, flashing the other she-cat a warm smile. Taking a little seat back where she originally sat. “hopefully the cold hasn’t hurt any of your hunting,” she noted to MInnowpool, in genuine sincerity. She wasn’t here for information on the other clans, she was here to talk to old friends and make new ones.
“We’ve been doing well in Galeclan, we are a little sad at the moment, but otherwise still doing good!” she boosted with a tiny puff of her chest. It wasn’t normal for her to brag, but finding herself suddenly surrounded by Shoreclan cats, as Gullwing joined the circle, she felt the need to. “I’m sure you all must’ve been sad when Jellyfishstar vanished,” she mused softly, “I am sorry you all have to go through that as well.”
Morningstar
If anyone was to ask her how it felt to have the two leaders who once sat beside you vanish, she wouldn’t really know how to respond. One one paw, it gave her a sense of superiority knowing that her and Orchirdclan were doing so well, they need not fret over missing cats. But on the other paw, it felt strange not having cats she had grown used to. First Jellyfishstar and now Basilstar. She wasn’t worried in the slightest, she wasn’t about to foolishly run off and risk the safety of her clan. She wasn’t about to go anywhere, and the way she sat with such pride, made sure it was clear.
“Minkstar put it so well, Welcome to the ranks, Wapatostar.” she mused, watching his pathetic form as he relayed the news of his friends vanishing. The fact that he was meeting her gaze and trying to hold himself up did not change Morningstar’s current opinion. Glancing out towards the sea of cats she flicked her tail. The moon was now high in the sky and it was due for them to start any time now. Turning to direct the sea of cats the small leader let out a loud yowl to indicate the start of the gathering. Glancing towards the other two, it was a silent invitation for either of them to start with their news.
