It had taken FAR too much back and forth for Heronfrost to concede to doing the ceremonies in Minkstar's stead. The she-cat had gone and gotten herself sick, too sick to perform her duties as leader of ShoreClan. 'Not too sick to refrain from being a pain in my tail.' Heronfrost thought, tail twitching in irritation.
Part, if not MOST, of Heronfrost's misgivings was that he wasn't the leader. His name didn't end in -star. Would StarClan even acknowledge the cats he would name today? The new warriors, the new apprentice? He hoped so. He didn't want to have to do all this just to have Minkstar redo it when she was feeling better.
Though if she did, Heronfrost would absolutely be saying 'I told you so...'
Heaving a heavy sigh to himself, Heronfrost leaped to the top of the Guarded Stone and turned to gaze over the Clan. Here went nothing. "ShoreClan, gather here beneath the Guarded Stone for a Clan meeting!" he hollered, voice loud and gruff.

beefur
shoreclan warrior
Beefur had admittedly been spending less time in camp as of late, though he certainly wasn't going to say that to anyone around him, so long as he stayed quiet and prayed they didn't notice. He'd hoped that all the cats around him just saw his absences as his usual times out of camp - times when he would race along the shoreline to see just how fast he could run and get out any extra energy he had from the day that he hadn't managed to get rid of on patrol. While he was spending more time near the GaleClan border, meeting and spending time with Applecrisp, he would usually try and go for a swim afterwards in order to hopefully get rid of any scents lingering on his fur.[break] [break] So when he heard Heronfrost call a meeting, it perked his interest momentarily. He hadn't been gone so long that Heronfrost was now Heronstar, right? No... he was sure that Minkstar was still alive. As usual, the tom decided to simply keep his mouth shut around some of his Clanmates, and especially near any family members. He didn't want to embarass himself or anyone else by being too loud or saying something stupid, after all.
bluepaw
shoreclan apprentice
Bluepaw's ears perked with excitement.[break] [break] The grey apprentice's eyes lit up when she realized that this was a Clan meeting. She prayed that Maggotcheer had told Minkstar how she was doing with her training and that she was ready to become a warrior, as well as her adoptive siblings, Fennecpaw and Burrowingpaw. She prayed to StarClan above that she would finally receive her warrior name, that her father might finally realize that she was more than some blight on the Clan and on his life, and that maybe today could finally be the day her life would turn around for the better.[break] [break] She kept an eye out for Fennecpaw and Burrowingpaw, her tail twitching with excitement over the ceremony. While she certainly had maybe hoped that it would have been Minkstar to give Bluepaw her warrior name, there was almost something symbolic in thinking it would be Heronfrost. After all, Bluepaw was the daughter of a deputy, though she had felt it a curse that her birth had brought the end of that very deputy's life. But it felt like a full circle moment that she would be blessed by the current deputy with her new name. Yes, this was right. StarClan was giving her a sign that everything was going to be okay.
kestrelkit
shoreclan kit
A Clan meeting? Hmph. As far as Kestrelkit was aware, she ought to always be invited to big important meetings. After all, Heronfrost didn't say "all cats old enough to catch their own prey", so that meant that kits should get to attend too, right? Still, she didn't want to get caught astray by some annoying warrior who thought she didn't deserve to be there. But Kestrelkit deserved to be wherever the attention was, and that included full Clan meetings.[break] [break] So, the pretty little calico kit decided to slither her way towards the entrance of the nursery. At least from here she could still see Heronfrost, and no one could get mad at her for going too far from Ducknose. It seemed silly regardless - she was most certainly old enough not to need her mother all the time, and that should mean that she was old enough to pay attention to whatever was important enough for everyone to hear.

Gullwind squinted up at Heronfrost up in the traditional meeting spot. Hm. So Minkstar really was feeling so terrible after all. She pushed aside a prickle of concern for the leader; it was probably just a cold. Even if not, she hadn't lost a life yet—so far as Gullwind was aware, anyway.
She made her way to the meeting grounds with deliberate slowness. It didn't seem like a good time for gossiping, so she passed on her usual companions and eventually settled near Beefur. It had been a while since Gullwind had last checked on her former apprentice. Even if there was no chance to speak, she could still get a look at him. Her whiskers twitched at the scent of wet fur and sea spray coming off of him. Not much had changed, then. Gullwind sent him a little nod before craning her neck to look at Heronfrost.

Desertrose
It had been a while since she needed to be physically present at one of these, but a warmth grew in her chest as she watched her two kits emerge from the Apprentice’s den. The sandy coloured she-cat knew Ducknose could keep her kits in line while she made her way over to start grooming the two young cats. Fennecpaw and Burrowingpaw were clearly ready for this, and she whispered some gentle words of encouragement to her children before she turned to look around the clearing.
Spotting the familiar blue she-cat who had been taken in with her own kits, she turned an eye to notice the lack of Pinetail. Like there wasn’t enough to break her heart today, the young apprentice deserved to have the support of her own father on this day. Making her way over to the young she-cat she purred and gave her a quick sweet of her tongue across her head, giving her a quick groom as she had with her own kits. “You’re going to do amazing Bluepaw, I’m so proud” she purred softly.
After seeing her three kits off, she didn’t want to smother them on this day. Not when they were about to become adults in their own rights. Granted they would always be kits in her eyes. Spotting her former mentor, Gullwing she was her way over and took a seat next to the older she-cat she offered a small smile as she sat next to her. She needed something familiar. Her heart was breaking as she watched her kits. Her mate should’ve been here with her, watching their kits becoming warriors, their younger kits were closing in on their apprenticeship as well, it was heartbreaking having to do this all alone.
Fennecpaw
Her paws itched as she heard her mentor's voice, unenthusiastically, call for the clan to gather. This was odd, where was Minkstar? Maybe he was there because Fennecpaw had messed up somehow. The young apprentice could feel the anxiety in her bones as she emerged from their den with her brother in tow. Having run into her mother, she felt a small prick of embarrassment at her doting, but she felt at ease when her mother mentioned her father and how proud he would’ve been. Shuffling through the crowd a little she offered a small smile at her clanmates. She wasn’t sure if she was really ready for this or not, but that was ultimately up to Heronfrost and Minkstar, not her.
She couldn’t stop the anxious fear that was coursing through her as she finally spotted her sister, Bluepaw. They may not share a family, but they grew up alongside each other, so who was to tell them otherwise. Making her way over she sat next to the other she-cat and curled her tail nervously over her paws before giving the other a small smile, “Are you ready for this?”
Luminouskit
Was there really much point to all of this? The tiny white and grey she-cat made her way from the nursery. She had been sitting in on these since she stumbled upon the clan. Since they took her in and gave her food and shelter. Granted the rules had never been something she cared for, the sea called her and she hated having been locked up and being told she was too young to go out of the camp and explore. Bossy older cats always treated her like some kind of helpless burden. Hah!
Since Maggotcheer had taken a shine to her, she had started to look up to the messy looking cat. Though LUminouskit had never once been off put by her appearance, she was one of the few cats that would let her leave the camp. Infact Maggotcheer sometimes humoured her vast imagination in the rocks as she played with the crabs and hunted for treasure in the shallow pools. Once the bright eye’d kit found the older she-cat, she took a seat next to her like it was the most normal thing ever for her to be at the meeting with all of the grown up cats.

Heronfrost watched his Clanmates gather below, and felt a prickle of unease when he saw three apprentices gather and not just two. He mentally reviewed everything Minkstar had told him to do and he knew things wouldn't go well.
He waited as long as he could, like he was hoping Minkstar would pop up and declare herself miraculously cured and she'd take over. No such thing happened, obviously, and Heronfrost silently sighed. "Before I begin, I want everyone to know that Minkstar made all the decisions for this meeting. Anybody have any gripes, go to her."
There. Hopefully that kept anybody from trying to ambush him with complaints. "Alright, with that out of the way. We have some apprentices to be made warriors and a kit to be made an apprentice. Let's get to it so everybody can get back to their business."
Moment of truth. StarClan, he hopes this goes well... "Fennecpaw and Burrowingpaw. Step forward."

Minkstar. Minkstar had started feeling ill several days before. But, that morning, when she woke, she had to clean her den from the hour-long wave of wrenching that had overtaken her. She hadn’t eaten anything all day, only slowly lapped water squeezed from a moss ball into a dip in the stone floor of her den. And still, within moments, it had come back up. The she-cat looked ill, her fur ruffled and dull, amber eyes holding no sparkle as usual. She had hoped that it would pass by the point that it came time to prepare for the night’s ceremonies. But… things hadn’t entirely worked out that way. The nausea and constant heaving made her stomach hurt, and her throat was tender from straining so much. She could hardly speak, let alone carry out a ceremony.
She had asked Heronfrost to act in her stead.
And he had not been happy about it.
With his apprehension, Minkstar had considered putting off the ceremonies until she was feeling better, but others didn’t need to wait in limbo just because of her sudden illness. Starclan would understand.
“Shoreclan, gather here beneath the Guarded Stone for a Clan meeting!” Heronfrost’s voice drew Minkstar from her fitful sleep. She waited as she heard voices gathering in the camp center, fighting with her stomach as it tried to heave. She lost her battle but managed to keep the affair quiet so as not to disturb those gathered only a few tail lengths away. Inwardly, the she-cat groaned to herself, laying still for a second before she heaved herself to her paws. The world spun and tilted around her, making her slump against the wall of her den for a moment.
She wasn’t sure what had afflicted her, but it was taking its toll. She felt dehydrated, and despite the ache that her body felt, she was starving. She had opted to skip an evening meal the night prior, due to her stomach not feeling quite right, leaving her without any food in her system since the morning before.
Slowly, the leader half dragged herself to the entrance of her den, wanting to observe the meeting, but knowing fully that she was not well enough to conduct it herself.
Minnowpool. Minnowpool had been taking a nap, curled in her nest, when Heronfrost’s voice calling for a clan meeting awoke her. ’That’s strange,’ she thought before she remembered that Minkstar had been ill since the night before. She felt a pang of anxiety for the leader, hoping that whatever illness had touched her wouldn’t take a life. But Minnowpool also knew that the stocky she-cat was tough, and whatever had gotten ahold of her must be pretty bad for her to not be conducting the clan meeting herself.
The silver tabby stood, stretching before she exited the warrior’s den and made her way over to where the rest of the clan was gathering. She stayed on the fringes, content to observe but still curious about what was going to be said. As the meeting began, she spied Minkstar peeking out from her den, looking worse for wear. But, at least the leader was moving around, although it was clear why she had confined herself to her den. She tore her eyes away from the ill leader and looked up at her brother as he began speaking.

Fennecpaw
The joy and pride that reached the young she-cat was immediate, however it took her a moment to realize it had only been two names, not three. Her and her brother - but what about Bluepaw? She had been training alongside them both and they had all been doing so well, why was she not being called forward as well? The wave of emotions that rushed through her was nearly enough to make her feel suffocated, but she clenched her jaw and glanced over at Bluepaw with confusion and pain. It felt wrong, but she would be frowned upon if she didn’t step forward and accept her name, right?
Despite the war of emotions raging inside her the dusty she-cat stepped forward to stand before Heronfrost. A sheepish smile on her maw as she now faced her mentor. Hopefully he truly thought that she was ready for this.
Desertrose
Immediately the queens expression dropped. Her eyes were quick to scan for the young she-cat she had taken under her wing. She knew it wasn’t her place to say anything, it wasn’t her decision to make. But when the soft motions of Minkstar could be seen, she felt her gaze find the she-cat. Surely she could say something, anything. She could subtly note that Heronfrost had forgotten a name. They wouldn’t split them up would they? Those three had been raise together and deserved to be warriors together. Her heart was breaking for little Bluepaw, though she was clearly still proud of her two kits for their moment as well.
